I. Microscopes

Before you begin to use the microscope you should be familiar with the instrument.

Click here to get a microscope.

Magnification: In the frame to the right is a virtual microscope. At the bottom of the image is a control bar. Push the "plus" button (Zoom In) to magnify the image. The "minus" button (Zoom Out) will demagnify the image.

Moving the image vertically: Once you have magnified the image you can also move the view up and down. (Note: The image must be magnifed before it can be moved!)

Click the remaining button on the control bar (Drag Zoomed Object). Place your cursor on the microscope. Hold down the left mouse button and slide the cursor up and down to view different areas of the microscope.

Rotating the image: Click the "Drag Zoomed Object" button again to deactivate it.
Now place your cursor on the microscope. Hold down the left mouse button and quickly slide the cursor back and forth. (If you wait too long before moving the cursor a pop-up menu will appear. If it does just click outside the image and try again). You may have to slide across the image more than once to completely rotate the microscope.

By using these keyboard combinations you will be able to rotate and magnify any part of the microscope. Practice doing so before you begin the next section.
