Objectives

When you have finished today's lab, you should be able to:

• Explain the sounds heard during a normal cardiac cycle and give their relationship to physical events in the heart.
• Explain what is meant by systolic and diastolic pressure and how these are interpreted.
• Define the major parts of the circulatory system.
• Identify the blood vessels highlighted in the text and state what part of the body they drain or supply.
• Identify the parts of the heart and pulmonary system.
• Trace the pattern of blood flow through the body in adult and fetal mammals, and explain the reasons for the differences in circulatory patterns.
